Meet Sandy S.
My Bright Line Eating (BLE) journey started on October 3, 2016. My therapist sent me a series of 3 emails that I didn’t open at first. I knew nothing of BLE, but that it prescribed to eliminate flour and sugar from the diet and I wanted nothing to do with that.
I always believed I could moderate. But I never could. My highest recorded weight was 238 pounds. So the emails sat there—for a few days, maybe a week. Back in 2016, the only way into BLE was through an online course called Bright Line Eating Boot Camp. There was no book, no Facebook group, no Instagram or TikTok accounts to follow. Just an almost $1,000 Boot Camp course. And it started in early October.
Something made me press the button to open the email. And I watched the first video. And I cried. I had food addiction explained to me in a way I never heard before.
For the first time, my eyes were opened to the fact that I just might have a brain that can’t handle one bite. It wasn’t because I was lazy and didn’t want it badly enough. My brain was wired to crave more and more. But, I still wasn’t hooked.
I had just come from a program where I had lost more than 60 pounds, taking appetite suppressants, eating less than 700 calories a day, taking vitamin B shots for energy and was on the way back up the scale to over 200 pounds. That wasn’t sustainable.
My therapist sent me to a nutritionist because that program taught me to not care about the food I was eating. Then the nutritionist taught me to care about the food I was eating. And so I sat down to the second and third BLE videos with a brain that was just a complete tangled mess. I didn’t know which way I was going but I felt awful. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. I was 50 years old and my friends were telling me that it’s all downhill from here any way. And that scared me.
So after watching the third video, I hesitated because $997 is a lot of money. And to give up my beloved foods! Was it sustainable? Ugh! I was scared to hit the button. But I was more scared not to. I went all in! Joined the Boot Camp. Got a Mastermind Group (an optional small, intimate support group). Took the courses. Untangled the mess in my brain. Got rid of the foods that left me feeling irritable and bloated … and the weight came off.
But even more important, I discovered what it means to be peaceful and free around food. And I love my food. Even more today, than I used to. Because now my food leaves me feeling amazing. Gone are the restless nights crying to myself that I won’t repeat the sabotage of the day that ended with me on the couch eating a bag of something, finishing it only for the sake of not being able to eat it the following day.
I have been living this way for more than 6 years. I stay close to the BLE Community because they get me. And I get them. I released approximately 70 pounds with BLE. I am maintaining within my goal weight range and I now know that eating this way is sustainable and not about deprivation. It’s not about what I can’t eat. It’s about what I get to eat and how to live in the body I was meant to live it in.
I just turned 57 and went parasailing and I’m here to say that it’s not all downhill from here. Nope. Nothing but up!!
