Meet John L.
My name is John, and I was extremely unhealthy on December 27th, 2020. I did not realize how unhealthy I was or how big I truly was until I looked at myself in the mirror and truly was able to see what I had become. I had been an athlete my whole life, but even then, I was still on the heavy side. I was made fun of at a young age, and I just did not care. In high school, I was able to lose the weight I had been carrying my whole life, and I felt great!
I weighed in at about 155 pounds when I met my high school sweetheart. Our story is not just any story because the way we met was quite unique. She did not attend my school, but her best friend did. My soulmate was homeschooled and just happened to be at my high school’s winter formal dance. At that point in my life, everything was going great. I had this amazing and beautiful girl in my life, and I was extremely healthy as well. That was until I started college.
I was taking classes, things started to get stressful, and I put on the “Freshman 15” pounds. I was just so shocked how it happened because I was working out harder than ever, but my eating habits were so poor! That was, of course, only the beginning. Once I finished my associate’s degree, I weighed about 220 pounds; in two and a half years, I had put on 65 pounds. That was just insane to me, and it made me extremely upset. I tried the original New Year’s resolution, where I would start certain diet plans or different workout regimens, yet the weight never came off. When I transferred over to William Paterson University, I became part of the rugby team, and I thought, ‘This is great, I am definitely going to lose weight now!’ I was wrong, though, because my eating habits were still horrendous. By the time I finished getting my bachelor’s degree, the scale had tipped over all the way to 270 pounds. I could not believe that I let myself gain 115 pounds in the matter of four and a half years of school. I saw no issue with it even then, but shortly that mindset came to an end.
Fast forward to December 15th, 2020, when I thought my life was finally going to change. (In reality, my change did not happen for another two weeks, on December 27th, 2020.) My soulmate came to me crying, telling me how my current weight and eating habits were making her extremely upset. She sat right in front of me and asked me to please change my life so I could grow up to live a long, healthy life. I truly was disgusted with myself that I let her down and the man I once was no longer existed. Her mother gave me the Bright Line Eating book and told me to start reading it. I did exactly as she asked me to do, and even started my happy and thin lifestyle that same day. The first week, I dropped 10 pounds just by weighing out my foods and only eating three meals a day. I made a small modification, though; I decided to do at least five-mile walks every day after I got out of work. The weight just continued to fall off, and everyone (including myself) was in shock.
Here we are, three months later, and I am officially 86 pounds down* from my original weight of 270. Today, I weigh in at 186 pounds, but my goal is to get back down to about 150 or 155 pounds. My story is only one of many that needs to be heard. I thank my soulmate, her family, and even my family for supporting me in this journey. Bright Line Eating is not just another diet or some extreme fasting plan. BLE is a lifestyle that changes who you are as a person. Not only am I living a healthy life, but I also have a better relationship with my girlfriend. I realized that I had to change because I wanted to, not because someone else was asking me. While my girlfriend may have been the motivation behind it, it was up to me to take that leap of faith to change my life around. I am here to say that losing weight is possible, but it’s only possible if you are willing to live a healthy and better lifestyle. I see people every day saying they are going to start a diet, and they never do. I tell them that it is about having a different lifestyle, putting yourself and your body in the best position to succeed. Life is so precious, yet thousands and maybe even millions of us take that for granted. So, if this is my story of how BLE changed my life, why can’t it change yours?
