    I never really comment on these kind of things (just hit the” like” button); however, this vlog touched my soul. For a variety of reasons my weight exploded when I was 52. Denial didn’t work, but eventually I took off the extra weight and felt magnificent at 5’6″ & 141 (from 230). Any size 6 in the universe was mine to claim for well over 5 years. Even in my mid 60s I was more than able to keep up with any of the middle schoolers I worked with. Then right about the time I retired, a Dr. mentioned that my LDLs were a little high & that to be at my perfect weight I should take off maybe 3 or 4 pounds. Maintaining 141 took vigilance but I could easily maintain 145 & cheat occasionally. Still I was, in your words, “happy, thin and free” and felt my very best at 141. What a recipe of disaster. The prescribed statins were horrible causing all sorts of side effects. Most importantly, I hyper-focused on what I “wasn’t”. Needless to say, that combined with the other external factors caused me to let down my guard…..on and on…. So 3 years later, here I am back at 230 and now hiding from the very Dr who wanted me to change. I can no longer have fun at zumba and am fighting my way back determined to take your most excellent advise. Thank you.

    Thanks for that. I’m in maintenance. Happy thin and free. No longer in bright lifers. Just wanted to mention that after following this program I ended up with oxylate crystals in my urine. Was eating wheat bran every day for constipation and almonds and lots of sweet potatoes which all are high in oxylates. And drinking the water I cooked the sweet potatoes in where all the oxylates leach out into the water. So please be careful !!

    I thought the first focus was the amount of protein required. Not just lean body mass. I’m 5’2″ and I believe I require about 30 gms of protein per meal to hit my threshold. Older people require more than young. Something that keeps me thinking.

    Dear Susan,

    As always I love your blog, It keeps me being a BLE girl! Almost three years ago my doctor told me I was pre diabetic when she looked at my blood tests, I am 4’7 and was 135 at the time. She wanted me to start taking all kinds of medications. I asked her what I needed to do, and she said “you need to lose the weight” . This was my “come to Jesus” moment. So I was looking for effective tools, and shared this with my sister. She immediately showed me her copy of your book, and I was instantly hooked! I read it carefully and followed it with support from my mother and two sisters. I am happy to say I am at goal weight 108 lbs, and have kept it off for about a year now. My doctor is doing the happy dance as all my tests are coming back normal! I am even off blood pressure medication. LOL! I share this with everyone! Thank you!!!!!

    “there ness”” – sooo happy, sooo thin and soooo free. Just emjoying my there ness; have been at the low end of my
    5-lb range (112-116) fo quite some time. My automaticity keeps me happy, thin and free, and am so thankful to

    Dear Susan, I had been watching your vlogs and then bought and read the book and loved all the explanations as to why in it. I have been BLE for 13 weeks and have lost 21 lbs, but I did have a problem, I couldn’t eat all the food because I have a lapband so I went back to the doctor and he took the whole 6 mils out of the band. Now I can eat all the required food. The bariatric doctor said that he was sure I would put on weight on a month long cruise but I showed him, I lost 6 Kg which absolutely amazed him. The staff and the cruise were very accommodating with my meals though. I am doing it by myself but am not having cravings and can even bake for others. So thank you so much for being you and for the book, I probably deserve a commission on how many others I have put onto BLE. LOL Thank you again. Brydie NSW Australia

    Boy, did I NEED THIS!!!! Maintenance for nearly four weeks, and for about a week now I am solidly within my goal range of 135-140. Unbelievable!!!! My highest weight was 245. MISERY!!! My lowest ever prior to BLE and 29 years ago was 161. That lasted about one day, and I was starving the weight off and working out hard six days a week. ALSO Misery!!! Now, living happy, thin and free, and my biggest worry is which next food addiction do I want to make next! Susan Pierce Thompson, when you say that you were told to write your book, I KNOW that I am among those whom God intended to bless through it! Thank you for this message and for your mission and efforts to share it for us who need it so desperately!!!

    This sure spoke to me, Susan. You declared me at maintenance over 2 years ago, but I didn’t feel like I was finally there until 22 months ago. Yet I’ve still been struggling with my body composition in the midst of a lot of physical activity. Especially the past few months, my mind has been in a swirl about this. I can’t take out food due to my training program, but I see my weight creeping upward, again. Thanks for the reminder to focus on how far I’ve come rather than the gap of where I wish I was.

    I couldn’t help but check out the BMI chart for someone like Dee. I see her weight range falls within the “normal” range on the chart. Of course, a doctor’s opinion bears consideration, but if it were me, I would certainly want to know the doctor’s reasoning. Contrary to my previous weight maintenance failures, BLE works for me because I have been let in on the science and psychology behind my overeating. I can no longer simply accept the dictates of an authority figure just because they said so. If I’m to follow a particular path, I need to understand why.

      I don’t think it was her doctor that was recommending the food changes; I think it was the person who was running the test, looking at standardized recommendations. I know the person who does my tests is a personal trainer, not a medically trained individual.

    Geez Susan I all but burst into tears!! I didn’t even realize I was doing that but I am. I have totally forgotten about my journey and have only been focused on losing those last few pounds, or for me its my stomach. If only I could get it really flat, then I’ll be done. (will I????) Sometimes I think this will never be done and it won’t if I keep focusing on the wrong parts! Thanks for telling me exactly what I needed to hear this week and that is that I am living the dream and I am in my right size body and all is well NOW…

    It is like you were speaking directly to me, Susan! I noticed that the game of losing weight drives me, and it’s kind of fun. (Strange I know). Now that I’m at goal I don’t know how to let go of trying to lose just 1, 2 or maybe 5 more pounds, examining diffferent body parts. If I could JUST lose it here or firm up there . My question is how do I keep health and fitness as a top priority, following my bright lines, without being obsessive. I’m 5’7 1/2, 135 lbs. lost 60-65lbs. Want to join the boot camp but I’m afraid I might obsess even more. Read BLE book, did two week BLE program. Thank you!

    I love your vlogs. You always address pertinent issues that relate to life issues not just weight issues. How many times do we focus on what is wrong or pending in life instead of what is going well. Great perspective.

    Thanks for this video! I’m not quite there but I have lost 70 lbs with 27lbs to go and it is hard to focus on what I have achieved.. All I see is the rolls that are left!! I do need to exercise more.

    Great topic. I do want to note that if her doctor thinks she is underweight, she probably needs to take it seriously. But point well taken about letting go of our habitual body perfection ‘project’.

    Yes!! Thanks for sharing your insight on this, Susan! I love this vlog! This quest for some sort of perfection is crazy, but I completely relate to this story and what you have said in response. There is a part of me that thinks I can always do better on this “project” of my body, which does not help me feel free. Could I lose a couple more pounds? Absolutely. Would it make me happier?? I doubt it. But I am still two pounds away from my goal, which when reached will give me that buffer zone. And then onto Maintenance…I went through my closet today and every piece of clothing in there fits, which includes size 0s and 2s. Do I really need to take this any farther? I guess now it is a matter of feeling the FREE, and I need to figure that out. Thank you for another inspiring vlog!
