Your Thanksgiving Plan

We’re about a week away from Thanksgiving, and in this week’s vlog, I give you a step-by-step roadmap for navigating the holiday (or any special occasion!) with your Bright Lines as bright as ever. You’ll want to bookmark this VLOG to refer to again and again. Enjoy!

    Enjoyed watching the vlog. Adding a 4th meal of a piece of fruit and protein is an excellent idea and I have added that to my “Coping strategies”. Thank you! We just moved back from Australia and have a schedule made up by friends and family. So, last Sunday, we attended my great neice’s birthday party. As we are living in an airbnb and the owner is a dear friend, we can make my food, we could have brought my food. However, we had been told at last moment. There is a Mexican food place that has Vegan options, we went in and ordered the large ‘bowl’ of salad before getting to the party. People tried a bit of it and I was left with half, which was the perfect amount for my dinner with steamed Vegetables (4 oz). I was ‘stuffed’ and declined dessert of frozen cheesecake and ice cream. Without BLE, I might have ‘pigged out’ on all the goodies. Again, Thank you!

    I appreciate it that you acknowledge that not all of your viewers are in the USA or otherwise celebrating Thanksgiving. A lot of US “health gurus” assume that their listeners/viewers are part of US society with only occasional mentions of “Europe” as though it were a distant exotic curiosity. And beyond Europe – well that´s another world altogether….

    It’s been years since we’ve hosted Thanksgiving at our home… and now that we’ve moved and live closer to our kids, we’re hosting Thanksgiving this year. Our meal plan is being sent to them so they know it’s protein, veggies, and fruit. The NMF, although listed on the plan, are NMF and not making it to my plate. My family supports me in my journey, are learning more about BLE each time we get together, and asking questions, making positive comments, and they are wondering… The BLE communities, including the Bright Lifers, are AWESOME! I think I just may call or text one or two on Thanksgiving to say “hello” and give them my love and support. Thanks for that idea!
    Susan, the vlog you made that shared the man from AA’s comment when asked if he’ll ever have a drink, he said, (paraphrase) ‘Maybe tomorrow, but not today’ also could work here for Thanksgiving.

    Hey Susan, I’m really enjoying your messages, your insight and tips!
    I would like to leave a comment regarding the way you introduce yourself and the weekly vlog:
    To me, it is distracting when you roll your eyes and raise your voice as if you were singing “and welcome to the weekly vlog”
    It makes it seem like you really don’t want to be doing the vlog.
    I imagine that’s not true at all, based on your content and your apparent passion for what you’re doing; however, it could come across as unprofessional.
    ‘food’ for thought 🙂

    This was a great vlog, Susan. Thank you so much. I’ve been working on the menu as I am hosting have many “adjusted” recipes I can choose from (and my scale handy) as well as the traditional items for the rest of the family. Your ideas are always awesome. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and your family. I am confident I can successfully handle any situations with food that is brought by others and that “Just have a taste.” ploy that is so often said at these types of gatherings. You rock!

    It’s always good to listen to you. Here in Norway it is Christmas that is the big challange. But I am lucky because I am the host and serve BLE food to everybody. So the desert is fruit salat 🎄.

    Thank you, Susan, for your solid coping strategies and consistent positive reinforcement! Thanksgiving is a THURSDAY, and I will plan and execute it that way. I also love the fourth meal option, and will use it IF it seems necessary.
    The day before, the 21st is my monthly weigh-in day!! SO excited to see that number and to be able to share it on Thursday with those who ask! It will mark my 20th week on BLE, and so much happiness, freedom, and at my last weigh-in, 41 lbs lighter. Thank you for all of your work in bringing Bright Line Eating to all of us! 😊

    Thank you for this wonderful vlog!! I had just hours before planned my BLE meals to bring to our family’s Thanksgiving gathering.

    And this also came right after cooking lunch for a friend, and because it wasn’t my meal time, I ate nothing with her, but simply sipped on Pelligrino. AND she was so impressed with my not eating with her and my weight loss that she will be taking the 14 Day Challenge when the time is right, as she is not set up to start right away!

    I’m sorry! The disingenuous attitude – basically lying from my perspective – to protect someone’s “feelings” is just wrong!!! Instead of making up some long convoluted story as to why you can’t eat certain foods is just wrong and dangerous.

    if you are pushed to eat food, not on your plan – Say so. no excuse you are stuffed, ranting about how much effort they put in to cook is all just lying to them and yourself.

    Be Honest! Thank you for all your effort but I need to stick to my plan as my health depends upon it. As mentioned no one will make you eat PBJ sandwiches if you are allergic and will have a reaction. Technically you are allergic to Sugar and Flour. End of story. Not a lie. not hurting feelings. just the plain simple truth. Stop treating other like simple overzealous children. you need to speak like an adult to other adults. If the truth is cruel in this case it is because your health and well being depends on it.

    I will have 5 people doing BLE at my dinner table and 6 who don’t. Dinner at 5 pm will be bright and weighed and measured, as it is any day. Menu already planned. I enjoy conversation and laughter as I prepare.

    Wonderful advice for when I am invited to a friends home for dinner. I could have used this tactic just last week when I was invited to eat and there was not one food choice for me on the table. Even though she called ahead to ask what could I eat! Very uncomfortable for me. 8 years ago I was diagnosed celiac. I am the Thanksgiving host every year. I tried to cook my traditional meal that year and it was extremely stressful for me. The next year I told my family I would not cook any food I can not eat so if they want gluten foods they have to bring their own. No one complained and it went well. This year I told them There will be no processed grains or sugar of any kind. I will cook Turkey, Mashed potatoes and gravy (which I don’t really like so no problem), salad and a big veggie tray for the kids to munch on. No one has complained. They all figured out what they want and will bring their own. My journey to eating better has helped them decide they should be eating better as well. I am trying to start a tradition of going for a walk every thanksgiving. Several of them have joined my efferts. The bast part of eating well on a holiday is waking up feeling well the next day. Everyione complained for a week after Halloween but me. I felt amazing.

    I’m curious why you separates ‘proteins and vegetables’ when there are plenty of proteins IN vegetables. Isn’t the better categorization ‘animal products and vegetables and . . . ?’ I am grateful for you and the ways you help people every holy day!

      Vegetables that count as protein (like beans, soy products, etc.) are in the separate category of “protein”. She doesn’t necessarily mean “meat” and vegetables.

      Hi Deborah! The food plan is broken up into fruits, vegetables, proteins, and fats. Proteins include both animal-based and plant-based options. Hope that helps!

    Great great video. This year, Thanksgiving is a Thursday and also my birthday. I have a plan for that day and will carry it out because I AM a Bright Lifer and it IS who I am. I would love to talk with you about my gratitude for you and BLE. My birthday tradition since age 14 has been to do something I have never done before.
