Meet James

For the first time ever, this week’s vlog features a very special guest. Overweight for as long as he can remember, James Hefke was 372 pounds at his heaviest. He was waking up 82 times every hour and on the brink of suicide when he found Bright Line Eating. James is now on Day 23 and has released 25 pounds. Tune in to this week’s vlog to hear James’s incredible story and help cheer him on as begins his transformational BLE journey.

I wish I’d found this food program and community when I was your age, but it wasn’t around! I’m soooooo glad you and Susan met, and I am so glad we are now blessed with your presence. I have a feeling you’ll offer a lot to us… you’re bright and loving and fun. You’re going to love being at goal weight.. I know I do. More than that even, I love the peace. Welcome, welcome, welcome! Big hugs! 😎💋🌹💖💥

James-I am SO excited for you that you are doing this so young! It WILL make a HUGE difference for you because you will tune in to your mind body connection better and better over time and it makes life so much more fulfilling-even when there are difficult times. I am on the other end of the age spectrum and while I have learned so much from listening to Susan-probably three years now?…I haven’t taken a full plunge yet-but I can so relate to all of your challenges and fears. Blessings on all-Have a wonderful wonder filled 2020. I’ve adopted the 5 year journal habit, walk most days and take any day that I avoid sugar with ease to be a win! Might not be full immersion yet-but those mini steps are helping. Thank-you everyone for sharing so deeply.

Most of my events occured on my back and my sleep doctor told me if I stay off my back my few events need no treatment and will not greatly impact my health😁. Hope this helps and encourages you!

I am gathering the things to begin and was a little scared to continue gathering them since I only am at the first two and not sure that the scale I have is adequate. Have found a tablet in a box but haven’t marked that yet. So watching James I can see forward now. Have had a few blocks as my mother died and husband had surgery in the last month. I may have been in a funk with those and just was medicating with food. Husband loves things I don’t need to eat but do anyway. So thank you James!!!!

Susan Pierce Thompson, let me be brutally honest. You should always do interviews with people whose lives have been transformed by Bright Line Eating. I am on your list and receive the weekly vlog every week, of course. I very rarely listen to more than a minute, though, before I delete the email. It’s too much about Susan.

This interview, on the other hand, showed Susan Pierce Thompson at her very best. You are genuinely moved and excited by one person whose life has been transformed by BLE. The smile on your face, the questions, the body language …We all know you’re dedicated to this cause, but for me, at least, I’m really not interested in the long musings about your walk, your thoughts. Seeing you interact with James, though, was extremely moving.

You are a smart, worthwhile person — I mean it from the bottom of my heart! Love James’ interview.! He is such a great speaker and so articulate in giving his testimony. Seems much older and wiser beyond his young 28 year old self.
So young…. he has his whole life ahead of him.
    To be 28 again.
Best BLE journey to you James. What a great inspiration you are. And I will he thinking of you and sending prayers and positive vibes your way.
    God Bless.

James you are my brother from another mother my friend. Our stories are so very similar and I came in weighing 344 pounds. The fantastic thing is I was stuck in the hell for 43 years before I found this program, you are so young and have been given this opportunity. Keep connected buddy we’re all here to support you. I’m 70 pound down and feel like a different person. This is totally possible.

Thank you for your transparency James. I’m just now getting ready for the 14 day challenge. I will carry many of your comments from the vlog into my journey. I’ll be praying for you in yours. I’m proud of you for using wisdom in switching from participating in suicide by food into creating a new life for yourself. Peace ALWAYS.

James, I am so with you, praying for you, sending you the most loving positive supportive energy for your well-being and success on your BLE journey!!! I am here for you if you ever need a friend to talk to or share with. I am a Bright Lifer now, which I joined right after completing the BOOTCAMP. I was moved to tears while listening to the VLOG with you as Susan’s special guest – tears of deep joy for your miracle and for the blessing of SPT and her BLE work. Big Love and Light, Karen

While watching James’ video, I had the distinct feeling that he is going to go on and do something in the health/wellness and/or fitness industry to inspire and help others. He is probably already doing that with this video…someone one will see it somewhere and it will be a catalyst for change. More will be revealed…

James I completely identified with your story. I am newly sober from alcohol but food is my number 1 since as far back as I can remember. I identified when you said “I never felt alone with food.” For the last 40 years of my life I have used food to comfort me through all sorts of turmoil and loneliness. I am still struggling daily coping with life, food free. BEST OF LUCK to you…

James: I went about as far down into the food addiction as you did. I could relate to most of it. Other people just wouldn’t believe the kind of eating I did. I’ve had food recovery for a long time, after a lifetime of active eating. I just want to tell you it’s 100% possible to change it around ODAAT. We’re here for you and we understand. You are not different, you just needed to find your community and here we are!

James is a rock star. I can’t wait to watch his amazing journey. He reminds me of you SPT! A zero to one hundred, all in kind of guy. A people person – thrives in a big family, in lots of people. So happy to see him get into peace, and hope that lets him feel the aloneness all humans have, but not feel cut off. Because he is made to be a connector. Very handsome too!

Wow. Go James! I was so moved by your honesty, vulnerability, and willingness to share with us. You are already an inspiration for me in just that. Susan, I look forward to your risk taking in changing up what you do over time. I was just thinking how it would be cool to see a video of your whole “team” that is working virtually as a group on a video at some point. Maybe there is one already?

Wonderful idea, Susan! Please show us more new BLE members so that we can encourage them along their BLE journey!
James, I have tears in my eyes!!!! You describe so MANY of my own feelings, emotions and experiences. I am a 10+++ on the Susceptibility Scale, and my guess is that you are too. I am SO glad and happy that you have joined a BLE Bootcamp and changed your life around!
It CAN be done! I started my BLE Bootcamp on 10 October 2017. After losing nearly 50 pounds with a few hickups here and there I am in maintenance now. I saw the plastic surgeon yesterday. Next month I will have the tummy tuck which I promised myself years and years ago. I am so exicted that I cannot wait!
The number on the scale is not the most important thing. You have nailed it: the most important thing is the PEACE and FREEDOM!!!!! And the most wonderful gift of all will be your EXCELLENT HEALTH!!!!!
I CHEER YOU ON, JAMES!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT, ODAAT = One Day At A Time!!!!! GO, GO, GO, JAMES!!!!!!
    Lots and lots of love!!!!!!!!
A tip: I keep my portions in the top part of my fridge, and the other food in the bottom part of the fridge or in the freezer. Each day I only eat what is in the top part of the fridge. When I open the fridge in the morning I know exactly what my food for the day looks like. I can see and smell my food and I know that it will be enough and that I will not be hungry, and I will not have cravings.. I have peace and freedom!!!

What a great interview! I am wiping tears away as I write this because I am so happy for James for finding SPT and BLE. He so eloquently put into words what I have felt prior to finding BLE. It was a good reminder to me of why I am doing this program. I am close to 1000 BLE days and sometimes when life gets challenging I wonder why am I doing this program. This vlog was was I needed to hear to bring it all back and know I am in the right place. This is home. I can’t wait to follow James journey and I trust he will soon be feeling the happy, thin and free that we here in this community love to be living!!

You are in amazing hands with an amazing community supporting you! The answer I loved most was when you said you feel peace. Most people look for happiness. Your response tells the truth about this program. Weight loss isn’t easy and if someone is looking for happiness, then they can easily fail. You have peace and that will be the reason for your successful journey. We all need peace in this world and you have found it with BLE. Congratulations! I will love seeing more of your guest appearances because you have inspired me to get back with BLE eating. I’ve fallen off course but now I’m getting back on the path. I want to re-experience the peace you have found. Thank you for sharing your story and reminding us about the peace it brings.

It was so fun to meet James! Howdy! I saw myself in almost everything you said. I could almost say your words before you said them. We are kindred spirits. I know what it feels like to be trapped in my own body. But I have been there four times. This is my fourth time losing the weight. I know what it feels like to be in a right-sized body. I want to get back there. So why did it go wrong? I learned that I can’t tolerate anesthesia very well. I Learned that every time I have a surgery (one year I had 3 in a row) I gain 20 pounds in one week! It had nothing to do with what I was eating. I’m not sure why my body does that, but it happened three times in a row. Now I’m back trying to lose that 60 pounds plus another 11. I am in day 10. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Hey James — great story and getting to know you! Aren’t you just amazed how one person (your medical connection) can point you in the right direction and give you the “rosetta stone” to change your life? That happened to me, too, and the best part is after reading Susan’s book — and others — I now understand why my own willpower was never going to be enough to deal with this, and now, finally, I understand why my brain is doing what it’s doing, and how that keeps me overweight. Just understanding that has helped me so much — there’s a real REASON for what has happened to me, but I (and you) absolutely can do something about it. Good luck and all best wishes for your success. If you fall down, don’t beat yourself up — just dust yourself off and “rezoom” back onto the track for health and freedom. Remember: progress, not perfection! 🙂

James – I had the same experience as you when I put done the booze. I kept eating until I hit 200 which was the number that it took to take action. However, this was years before BLE. I started with WW. Slowly I was abusing fruit (in WW t was “free”) so I’d eat a bag of mandarin oranges, or 5 big oranges. I would binge on Skinny Cows using my “points” – started off with 1 next thin all 6 were gone. Hated Summer and short sleeves, dresses, shorts. Started creeping up from WW goal weight. Saw a picture at 172 and didn’t like what I saw. My therapist at the time had been doing BLE and eventually I was ready to eat differently. Started BLE 2/23/16 and got to goal weight in July 2016. Still a that weight 3+ years later. TG for BLE. So far my experience has inspired several others to join BLE. They’ve all lost the weight and kept it off.

I hope for you that you stay – in your 12th step program and BLE. It’s changed my life.
