Reading the Book and Then Doing the Boot Camp

In this week’s vlog, I answer a viewer’s question about whether doing the Boot Camp is necessary if you’ve read the book. My answer might surprise you. Watch the vlog to hear it.

Having read your book before the Boot Camp I can definitely say that the Boot Camp was a more complete experience. The difference is between having knowledge of something and actually experiencing it. When you live the experience it changes your whole world view.

Wow ! And thank you! I feel so included – that while I was not able to do the Boot Camp just the book and the 14 DC- my success matters and will be counted towards your goal. I have several online support teams with women like myself who support each other, share recipes, joys, and setbacks. In the end, that’s what makes the journey worth it. A feeling of inclusion. So thank you Susan for this weeks Vlog!🥰

I started the book while doing the 14 day challenge and then did the Boot Camp. Now a Bright Lifer. The fellowship of the Facebook group really made it worthwhile for me, and meeting my buddy and Mastermind Group. The videos also were a huge part of the value of the Boot Camp. My friend just did the book and has been very successful with BLE, but for me, the combination was key.

Love the book. I am so thankful for BLE. After losing weight three times and then regaining I appreciate the maintenance portion of BLE. I have lost more weight then ever before following BLE and I am less than ten pounds from maintenance. Looking forward to continuing this journey into maintenance.

I was told about BLE by a friend – I am 78 years old and have been on every diet program out there my whole life from Weight Watchers( 4 times) to liquid ones – I’ve lost weight on all of them but only ever seem to go half way, feel good, stay there a while, a year sometimes less sometimes more then start gaining again. I started BLE on October 22 2018 and lost 25 lbs by Christmas going through Haloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years without doing 1 thing wrong. That was fabulous! And I’m not hungry! I am going all the way this time. I am wearing clothes I was in 5 years ago when last I was this weight . I am still working so I bring my breakfast and lunch to work every day (pack it at night) and am determined to stay on this very doable program for the rest of my life. I did not do the boot camp but did read the book. I also watch your weekly vlog and enjoy them a lot. I have lost 42 lbs so far and want to lose 30 more. I seem to be at a plateau for over a month now which is probably normal til my body catches up. Is there anything else I should be doing to jump start this losing process at this time in the program? Thanks for all your help and for this wonderful way to live, sorry I didn’t know about it sooner.

I read the book and did part of the boot camp, but I feel like I learned everything I needed from the book so I asked for a refund and it was given hassle-free, which was SO AWESOME because I’m “Iowa nice” and didn’t want to deal with conflict or guilt. I’m SO grateful for that.

Before reading the book, I already had a solid meditation practice. I learn better from books than I do from videos. I have great support from a very close friend who did the boot camp before the book came out and has been guiding me since I started in December. I took the identity piece very seriously, and all the other “non-food” parts of the program also. I’ve started a small support group of other friends I’ve converted to the BLE way. We are all succeeding wildly and are SO GRATEFUL. I am proud to say that I’ve steadily lost 2 pounds a week and have released 35 pounds. I’m 44 and I weigh what I weighed in high school now, even though I’m still overweight. I would like to lose 30 more pounds to reach the calculations Susan discusses in the book, which will be my lightest since junior high school.

After a decade of yoyo dieting, nothing out there taught me like Susan has with her life-changing book. In just four more pounds, I will have lost ONE HUNDRED pounds from my total weight in my 30s. I could not have believed something like this was possible for me. But this is it. This is the key. And I’m so grateful for Susan and her team.

I completed Boot Camp in Jun 2016 and hv been a BLEer since. I also bought several books for friends, keeping my “signed” copy from the Family Reunion for myself. I see a big difference between the book and BC. The camp experience is hard to put in words but it definitely gave me a feeling of inclusion; whereas reading and digesting the book was a solo activity. I recommend both for each is an enriching experience.

I think the main difference is the support. If you are not someone who benefits from things like coaching and facebook group interactions, the book *might* be enough. I made- and stuck to- my changes from the book only, prior to doing the bc.

I have not read the book, but the Bootcamp was a life-changing event in my life! I started bootcamp on February 2, 2019 and have released more than 20 pounds since then. I have 10 more pounds to go for my goal weight.
The lessons and support are phenomenal! Thank you Susan!

I started with the book and never felt a need to go to the boot camp, but then again, my two friends, who I speak to at least weekly, have both done the boot camp so perhaps I am getting the benefit secondhand. Thank you for my happy, free and right-sized life

I just read the book. I’m 72 years old, a #7 on the scale, read the book 18 months ago, lost 35 lbs and got to my goal weight in 6 months. I’ve been living “happy, thin and free” for a year now. It helped that I already had a meditation program going, and that my daughter and I did BLE together (she lost 100 lbs) so we supported each other. I so appreciate that you made the program available through the book. Thank you, Susan!

I read the book in August in 2019, and started BLE at the end of the month. And, I made it to my goal weight in 28 weeks! I lost 50 pounds, and feel so much better! Thank you so much for the book, and the vlogs, and everything online. All of it together—and support from my husband—was enough for me to become Happy, Thin, and Free! And, I am so grateful. Thank you!

So glad to hear that you’re going to make a way for those of us who haven’t done Boot Camp to share our results / be involved in your statistic gathering 🙂 It would be really interesting to hear, someday, a comparison of the results of those who have only read the book, did the 14 DC, or done Boot Camp. I haven’t done Boot Camp yet, but am so happy to know that it is there and a possibility for me if I ever get derailed and need help getting back on track again. Thank you!

Hello Susan! What spiritual serendipity to run into you at Del Monte Center in Monterey this evening! Thank you for your warmth and kindness! I apologize for interrupting your family time, but I was so happy to see you! My son, Rafi, even said, “Mom, your acting like you just met Beyonce!” As I mentioned I did the BLH course in 2016 and read the BLE book but have yet to do a boot camp. I must admit that I have been following the program as a diet, in isolation and have made exceptions which is why I have only released 25 pounds and am struggling to keep my lines bright. I think that my running into you today is a sign that it is time to do the boot camp in order to make my lines bright and have better success. Warmly, Kim

So I would just like to say ‘thank you Susan’ – you have been a complete inspiration to me. I can’t even remember how I got to hear of BLE a few years ago, but I get your vlogs by email and I bought your book.
I am from the UK, currently living in Sri Lanka.
I literally thought the ‘boot camp’ was a physical one that only took place in USA!! Turns out it’s an online thing!
The reason I say this is because I am a 10 on the susceptibility scale abs everything you have taught me about sugar & flour is so applicable to me. If I’m honest I kind of follow the BLE philosophy but I have done the usual ‘on’ & ‘off’ mentality with it. I only have about 5kg of weight to lose and I think I feel pretty ‘happy’, not sure about the thin & free though as it is a cycle of repeating behaviour for me. Every vlog or email of yours helps me every day. I totally believe in and have faith in your theory. I’m not sure that I have that level of discipline right now- but I’m getting there. So, in relation to the book workout the boot camp question; I use it as my bible. I have the knowledge. I just need to think about doing BLE long term. Susan you have become my guru. Even vlogs regarding your relationship with your husband has indeed helped my relationship with my husband. We adore your honesty & sincerity. You truly are my reason for being ‘happier’. Thank you so much.

As a life-long dieter, I was eager to try something that would finally set me free from obsessing about food. My sister and I read the book and completed a 14 day challenge together. It has been over 3 months now and I have lost over 20 pounds, 5 of which I didn’t know i had to lose! I’m below what I thought was my goal weight of 125 pounds for the first time since having my 3 now teenaged children! But the best thing BY FAR is that I am not obsessing about my food!
I want to THANK YOU, SUSAN, for sharing your knowledge, incredible intuition and experience with us for the price of a book and 14 dc. We are living in the middle of a health crisis and you are making a difference!

I am 83 years old, still working part time as an architect and only 4 on the susceptibility scale . Can’t afford to get cranky and tired with my clients when I am on a “diet”. I only had 19 pounds to loose which much seem not worth worrying about but it was for me. My friends don’t see why I bother! My clothes now fit! OK, they are out of style! I know that I can stray and the pounds come right off when I am back on the program. I seem to automatically make the choices that conform with the program. I do feel Happy Thin (well almost) and Free. Especially free. I only read the book and copied the food portion charts to refer to when planning meals DAILY. The book lives beside my bed. Especially love the Facebook group. Wonderful stories , lots of inspiration. Thank you for caring Susan and your helpers too!

Read the book in one day and started program. Joined the bootcamp 4 days later and never looked back. 118 pounds down over 14 months and living in my right size body. Bright Line Eating changed my life. The book was awesome but I wanted every tool available to help me in this journey.

I was referred to Bright Line Eating by my health practitioner when I was overweight and fearing the possibility of diabetes. I bought the book on Amazon for less than $20. I loved how you started with the brain-body connection to addictive food behavior, and I read the entire book before making changes. I considered joining the boot camp but decided to stay with the book because I work long hours and didn’t want to make time for chat rooms, phone calls, or texts. Actually, I don’t know what kind of time is invested in boot camp because I never felt a need to join. I got everything I needed from the book. I lost 60 pounds and am at my perfect weight, which I’ve maintained for almost a year. The boot camp may be the ideal, but for me the book was perfect.

I’m blown away how many people manage with the book alone and their strength and dedication! I needed the boundaries of the bootcamp to work through each part of the program until it was firmly implanted in my life.

I can’t tell you HOW EXCITED I WAS when I realized the whole blueprint for BLE was in the book and I didn’t have to buy a program. I did, incidentally, get into a Bootcamp when a brightlifer offered me a discount after I had been working the program for 5 months. In all honesty, I was doing very well without bootcamp but I listened to your high recommendation and I felt I just had to give bootcamp a go and usher myself right to my goal weight at the end, which I thought was entirely possible. What I didn’t anticipate was the slowdown of my weightloss to a crawl during bootcamp, which caused me to stumble and rethink things, which further slowed my progress. I lost 1 lb a week in bootcamp, bringing my weight from 185 to 175 (5’7, starting weight of 250). I’ve maintained my loss since the end of bootcamp in November 2018 but I’ve not been successful in dialing in my program enough to lose any more weight. I think I appreciate the audio book more than the bootcamp video modules. I’ve lost track how many times I’ve listened to the book in the last year. 6 times maybe? It’s GOLD! And when I find myself sliding back to old struggles and old thought patterns the book really brings everything back home to me. My experience of the online support wasn’t that inspiring to me personally. I took the time to read posts, react to posts and post some myself but it was in no way a magical experience for me. The coaching calls were difficult to listen to because of the length and minutia of the topics that didn’t really resonate. I tried getting a few buddies but the inconsistency of that didn’t inspire me the way I had hoped either. I was so discouraged with all of that to the point that I didn’t even want to try a MasterMind group. So here I am months later still going BACK TO THE BOOK… and still working the program, even with all my own inconsistencies. I DO need to keep my focus on where I AM and where I CAME FROM. That is an awesome reminder! I hardly resemble the girl I was 75 lbs ago. Thank you for heeding the call. You have changed my life. ♥
